This pond is X ft wide and deep. The X ft stream running over natural, granite boulders falls down the hillside. Koi LOVE this pond! The waterfall passes through a wetland filter filled with MN native plants like blue flag iris, marsh marigolds, and cattails.

Circulation is fast enough to clean the water which houses many koi over 12″ long.

An automatic dosing system regularly adds beneficial bacteria helping break down fish waste safely. (The dog and kids can swim in this pond!)

Maintenance for a large koi pond built mimicking a natural ecosystem:

Spring: Clean out rotten leaves and trim back plants. Power wash rocks every other year. Add spring cold water bacteria to prep the system for fish. (The fish are overwintered inside to protect them from predators.)

Summer: Trim plants, spot treat string algae along the stream when the weather gets hot. Add liquid bacteria to the dosing system once per month.

Fall: Switch fish food to cold water food and feed less. Net the pond to reduce leaf litter. Remove annual flowers and compost.

Winter: Remove fish to their winter storage. Pull pumps and store in a frost-free location per manufacturers directions.
